Dark Conversation

part 1: a conversation between someone who's killed before and someone who wants to

"Morpheus eh? Nice handle. Gaiman right?"

"Excuse me?

"Neil Gaiman? Writes The Sandman? Morpheus, Dream, Oneiromancer, Lord of stories, Lord of the Shifting Lands, Dreamweaver, Storyweaver, Elf-friend, you know, Sandman?"

"The only Morpheus I know is the god of dreams from Greek mythology."

"So you've never heard of The Sandman?"

"No."

"Oh, it's great! It's wicked! You ought to read it. Really cool post-modern shit, you know."

"I don't read books."

"It's not actually a book, see. But it might as well be coz of all the depth in it and... you don't read books? Where'd you get
Morpheus?"

"It wasn't my choice. The media tagged me with it."

"God, that's right. They called you Morpheus coz you do your victims while they're asleep, yeah?

"Something like that." Grins. Pauses.

"You know, I've always wanted a cool handle. I mean, when I do the deed, you know? I figured I'd be, oh I don't know, this is
just at the top of my head now, you understand? I thought I'd be, uh, 'The Apotheosis'! Has a nice ring to it, don't it?"

"I'm not sure. What does it mean?"

"Well, uhm, basically it means the deitification of a person, you know? Like you turn someone into a god after they're dead."

"You're gonna turn them into God after you kill them?"

"Well, it's symbolic, see? I mean, not turn TURN them into God with a capital G. More like, turn them into small gods with lower-case g's?"

"How do you do that?"

"Well, uhm, yeah, that's quite a problem. Haven't thought of it thoroughly. I just thought it would be cool to be called 'The Apotheosis', you know? Has a nice ring to it."

"Too high-brow, if you ask me."
