Bohemian Calyso ran second in the third and final leg of the $5,000 Bud Light Irondog Triathlon on Saturday afternoon, June 9th, giving the diminutive 65 pound red fawn male the title of Palm Beach Kennel Club's most versatile greyhound. The Irondog Triathlon is a unique stakes format that takes eig
ht greyhounds and pits them against each other over a trio of distances. Bohemian Calyso managed to win one of the races and run second in the other two, giving the son of Gable Dodge and Tillie O'Darlin enough points to annex the Irondog crown.

The stakes took place at the Palm Beach Kennel Club, on Florida's eastern coast, over a week's time, with the first race, over the 660 yard 3/8ths of a mile distance, run on June 2nd. The eight dogs competing in the Triathlon were Snow Beauty, Reward Classie, Breezin Taz, Nick's Papa, Vegas Eyes, TK Movin On, Daves Page, and Calyso; this group has had much success at Palm Beach over the last few months. Kicking off the Triathlon in the 3/8ths race, TK Movin On was made the favorite by the betting public, as he was working on a six race winning streak.

However, those contests were all marathons at Palm Beach, where Movin On holds a piece of the track record. Nick's Papa in the two hole was the second choice, and one could see why, as he was showing four impressive wins over that distance. Calyso had just returned from competing in the Hollywoodian trials at Mardi Gras Racetrack and Entertainment Center in Miami, where the two and a half year old had not fared that well, but he certainly merited better odds than the 25-1 he was sent off at. This dawned on many Palm Beach patrons some 38.22 seconds after the box opened, as Bohemian Calyso tore to the front from the six hole and blew Nick's Papa off the track by a full seven lengths. For his win, Calyso paid $51 to those who had faith in him and also earned fifteen points in the Irondog Triathlon standings to take the early lead in the stakes. TK Movin On was jammed early and finished a disappointing sixth, while Breezin Taz ran third.
