You know that blah room in your house that needs an instant make over? You've probably been putting it off because paint, wallpaper and other supplies have simply become outrageous in price. True, it's hard to even change the color of a room without investing serious money, but what would you say if you could change the entire room for under ten bucks? Don't believe me?

Pinstripe the walls of the room, and you'll add color, dimension, and interest, for next to nothing in cost.

Pin striping is a controversial way of decorating a room. For some people, and some rooms, the look just isn't good. For others, it can make a room with a low ceiling look taller, can make a huge room look a little cozier, and can make a dull room sparkle.

The idea of pin striping makes most people think the walls will be covered in stripes, positioned closely to one another. But that's not necessarily so. Pin striping can also be an occasional stripe, with a large space in between each one, or can be two or three stripes together, then a small space, then one stripe, a large space, and so on.

Pin striping can also consist of more than one color of stripe. Many people think of pin striping as black stripes on a white background, but the stripes can also be two colors, three colors, or more.

For some, it might seem that pin striping would be a whole lot of trouble. Not so. With paint markers that are now available, you can pin stripe the walls in no time, and do it for very little money.

Each paint marker costs about two to three bucks, and can cover quite a large area. You'll find a rainbow of colors, and a huge variety, like metallic, pearl-look, glitter markers and more. The assortment will allow you to choose the exact look you want for your not-so-impressive room at home.

Taping a couple of yard sticks together will help you get your project done quickly. For best results, have one person hold the yard sticks, while the other works the paint pens, or, if working solo, tape the paint marker onto a stick, to make it easier to reach high places.
