Who are the best coaches in College Football? When I began putting this list together the first decision I made was to not make this an all time list. I only concentrated on the last five to six seasons. Names such as Paterno, Bowden, Osborne, Switzer and Mckay will not make my list. The first thing I looked at obviously was the won loss record of various coaches. I took into consideration how these coaches performed in their rivalry games, because a lot of head coaches lose their jobs when they consistently get beat by their rival. Recruiting was also a big factor when I put this list together. Obviously the schools that are able to attract the most talent have a better chance of being successful on the football field. National Championships played a big part in selecting the coaches that made The Best College Football Coaches Bar None list.

Pete Carroll 65-12,Two National Championships, 34-2 at Home

This list is absurd. What about coach Kehres at Mount Union? His teams have gone undefeated in 15 different seasons and have won 9 national championships. Grand Valley's Chuck Martin? 38-3 in four years with 2 national championships. Or maybe college football's winningest coach John Gagliardi? None of these teams are blessed with the best talent in the country either, they work hard and well as a team because their coaches make them champions.

Florida is not one of the top 4 programs of all time, prior to Steve Spurrier, they were an SEC doormat

What a ridiculous list. The best coaches list you have put together is the coaches from USC, Florida, Ohio State and Texas? What great coaching jobs, they took these teams from nowhere to national... oh wait, these teams were already four of the top 10 programs of all-time? my bad. If you want to talk about actually good coaches, look at this guy: Jim Leavitt - USF (74-43) - USF's football program started in 1997! They joined Div. 1-A in 2001 and our now ranked #6! They were the fastest team to make it into the top 25 ever! They did it in 104 weeks, Boise State did it in 115! I know they recruit in Florida, but they aren't the no. 1 destination in it like USC in Caly. They have to recruit against Florida, Florida State, and Miami... Next time get a list with people who have to actually do something difficult in the coaching world than take over legendary programs like those...
