Seasonal locations bring in thousands of people every year. Tourists and summer people will flock to those vacation spots. Some businesses are only seasonal and only open during the vacation season. The locals dread the seasons every year for many reasons. In this article I will intend to share some of the problems locals have when living in a tourist area.

Prices go up

Some of the same businesses that have lower prices in the winter raise them in the summer. Price gouging is not new and many businesses will take advantage of the increased traffic. The locals are the ones who suffer the most. The tourists save their money all year and are only here for a short time. They don't feel the affect as bad the locals of that area.

Increased traffic

The locals that do not own businesses do not like the the fact their roads and highways are extra busy. Although tourists are good for the local economy most of the locals do not like the fact they have to cater to vacationers.

Increased crime

Wherever you have a lot of tourists you have the ingredients for crime. If you was able to leave your car unlocked you have to be more cautious. Its not that the tourists cause crime but that thieves come where the tourists are.

Over crowded public facilities

If the main attraction is an amusement park, beach, or whatever. The locals have a difficult time using their own public attractions. Many locals find it difficult to use their own public beaches, attractions, etc. They would rather stay away than to fight the crowds.

Real estate and property taxes are very high

There is a premium to live in a tourist area. One of them is increased real estate prices and taxes. Over the years it has never seemed to get any better. Those from other areas will buy up homes and rent them as winter and summer rentals. The problems of adequate affordable housing becomes a huge problem. Communities usually will have to pay more to bring in low income families to work the services jobs. As property prices rise higher and higher local families may find it necessary to move out the area entirely. Which leaves a gap for employers filling low income jobs.
