When Lou Dobbs rants about "amnesty," "broken borders," and illegal immigrants as if their search of a better life across our border is on par with a bubonic plague causing rat infestation how many of you really think he has Canadians in mind? Closer to the truth perhaps is that Dobbs' fear mongering and vilifying tactics are specifically aimed at one group and one group only - Mexicans (a much more convenient target than those who more easily assimilate and "pass" within our culture).

To make his point against illegal immigrants Lou Dobbs cites the Council of Conservative Citizens - an extremist organization whose ideology is defined as "white supremacy" and "white separatist" by the Anti- Defamation League. The network brushed off criticism of its man by labeling any citing of the CCC as an honest mistake. A Freudian slip is perhaps the more appropriate way to describe it.

What Dobbs aims to do is further divide this country in a way that Jim Crow laws meant to divide this country - create a system whose sole purpose is to separate an entire group from the main. Let's make "them" who are different from "us" linger on the fringes of our society while suffering the consequences of our whimsical ignorance. While they're at it let's have them do it politely... and in English.

There is no question that immigration reforms are necessary to prevent further violations of existing laws and minimize the potential of bona fide threats to our national security. But measures and tactics used to divide rather than bring people together to find common ground to common problems is not the answer.
