Holiday Happenings in Roanoke, Virginia: 4th of July Fireworks and More

We will soon be celebrating Independance Day, giving us all a chance to be patriotic and have fun at the same time. In my neighborhood at least four families will be having a cook-out and staying home to avoid the holiday crowds. At my house we will be grilling hot dogs, hamburgers and chicken, along with my traditional family dessert, homemade banana pudding. Ice cream, popsicles and sparklers for the kids will round out our day.

There are several area attractions for those who want to get out and mingle with the crowd to celebrate July 4. Virginia's Explore Park will be having a scavenger hunt throughout the park, along with stories for the kids and many other activities. Regular admission rates will apply.

The Salem Fair will be open on July 4, although they no longer feature fireworks. You can still enjoy an evening of family fun on the Degeller Midway full of rides, games, exhibits, live shows, music and more. The Salem Fair as always has free admission and free parking.

The Town of Vinton will hold their annual July 4 celebration at Robert Patterson Stadium on the grounds of William Byrd High school from 6pm to 10pm on Wednesday the 4th. The featured entertainment will include the live band Cimarron, a patriotic program, a children's parade which will be led by the Andrew Lewis volunteer Fife and Drum Corp., a variety of other children's activities and the famous Zambelli Fireworks Show at 9:30 pm. There will be food and drinks for sale on site, and there is seating available in the stadium, or in an area for your own lawn chairs. Admission is free.
