Discrimination exists in modern American society to the same extent which discrimination exists anywhere. A strand of discrimination which remains particularly strong in American society today exists towards the Arabic population. As an Arabic member of American society today, one might experience ignorant disgust or fear directed towards themselves. Racial profiling, a pressing issue of modern times, largely targets people of Arab descent or appearance. Discrimination can also take the form of physical abuse, with people assaulting Arabs. Also, this aggression may remain in the context of verbal abuse and threats. Self-withheld prejudices alone affect how one treats another. When one associates their peer with a vastly unrelated person, on account of their common race alone, who did injustice to the United States, one may afford their peer and his ideas unfair opportunity or unjust consideration.

Racial profiling remains an issue which thoughtfulness to everyone's equal opportunity must be applied. If not, cries of discrimination will arise. In the case of modern American society, racial profiling remains an affordable, rapid method of streamlining any screening procedures. The question, however, does not lie in racial profiling's effectiveness, but rather in the morality of the application of such profiling. For maximum effectiveness while keeping costs to a minimum, racial profiling must come to use with other methods of profiling used in conjunction. For example, If a Caucasian male carrying a large backpack, and separately, an Arab male with nothing but normally fitting garments on his person walk to a security checkpoint which only has the resources to investigate one of the subjects, logic dictates the security personnel present should check the Caucasian male because his backpack could carry dangerous items, whereas the man of Arab descent has little chance of carrying any items which may not concern the public's safety.

People that are not of Arabic desent but mistaken to be are subject to bigotry from strangers. Police justify profiling as a way to keep tabs of who belongs in a neighborhood. Same reason for homeless profiling.
