Fabric softener can mess with people's allergies. Many people don't like the odors that they come in either. There are a couple of fabric softner alternatives.

[1] Store bought fabric balls have little spikes on them. They save drying time and soften clothes. Disadvantage is that they are very expensive.

[2] Clean shoe. I discovered that if you put in clean toddler size sneaker, your clothes will get softer. You can borrow one from a friend or find at a thrift store very cheaply.

[3] Clean tennis balls. Toss in 2 clean tennis balls. You can get a can at the dollar type stores for a buck. They last a long time.

These are chemical free alternatives to fabric softener. Share your ideas in the comment section.

I've always wondered how well those laundry balls work. 1/4 cup of vinegar in the final rinse is also a great fabric softener, as it completely removes any detergent residue.

Thank you I needed this. I have not reverted back to fabric softner since my skin/bed bug fiasco - I don't want the irritants for already dry skin. No suggestions, as I'm not that creative with laundry, but I'll take advantage of yours. :-) Thanks!
