Herbal alternative medicine has had a long hard road over the years in being accepted by mainstream medicine. In recent years however, herbal alternative medicine has slowly become something that even doctors are suggesting to some of their patients.

Because herbs have become so popular, the market has been flooded with new manufacturers of herbs, vitamins and minerals. The competition is stiff, which is good and bad both. It's good because it often helps bring down the cost of products, but it's bad because some manufacturers compromise on herb quality. This is why it's important when selecting herbal alternative medicine to choose name brands you can trust of companies who have been in business for a long time, and are well known for only producing the highest quality herb products.

Harvesting your own herbs for herbal alternative medicine

Growing your own herbs will help guarantee the type of ground they're grown in, as well as whether or not pesticides and chemicals are used. Of course, you should avoid using either. Many herbs can be grown indoors, all year long. If you'd rather grow your herbs outdoors, be conscious of the season, and any special directions on the package. When you harvest your herbs to produce herbal alternative medicine, be aware that you can use them in tea form, capsule form, or even in ointments. Most herbal medicine is dried first, and then used. Some can be used fresh off the plant.

Herbal alternative medicine and its benefits

Unlike antibiotics and over-the-counter medicines, most of the herbal alternative medicine you use will have little side effects. In fact, this is why so many people switch to more natural forms of healing. They are less intrusive and often provide relief without grief!

Once you've minimized your over-the-counter drugs and antibiotics, and have incorporated more herbal alternative medicine, you will start to feel cleaner and experience fewer side effects. This has been my experience. Perhaps everyone is different. Be sure to consult a physician to be sure it's okay to switch medicines.
