After I wrote the article, "How to Care for a Dog Diagnosed with Breast Cancer" I noticed that a lot of people didn't realize that dogs could get breast cancer. This got me to wondering whether or not people realize just how many diseases and conditions dogs can have that are the same as humans. I think many people would be surprised to know that dogs get everything from cancer to pimples. It's important to know this information, because many people ignore lumps they find on the dog, thinking it's nothing. But, once it continues to grow, they take their pet to the vet only to realize that it's too late to save them. People have honestly waited to take their dogs to the vet until there is a lump the size of a baseball. What I want people to learn from this article is that weird lumps can appear on your pet and they need your attention. Diseases and conditions in your pet can be just as serious as those that appear in humans.

Diseases in Dogs That are Similar to Those Found in Humans: Little Problems

While not everything that appears on your dog is serious, you should still be aware of what can occur. About two times a month, you should check your dog for lumps. If you do find lumps, you will need to start checking that lump once a week. If the lump begins to grow, you will need to take your dog to the vet. Your vet will be able to tell you if the lump is a serious disease or something simple. For example, I found a lump on my dog's leg, which worried me since she had breast cancer before. Luckily, after taking her to the vet, the lump began to shrink in size. The following are just a few of the simple conditions a dog may encounter, that are similar to conditions that humans encounter.

Pimples
Cysts
Hiccups
Allergies
Intestinal Gas
Urinary Incontinence

Our 4 month old German Shepherd gets the hiccups. I didn't realize dogs could get them until I saw her do it.

Very good information to get to pet owners. Check-ups are important, it's good you mention this because pets can't complain about every little ache and pain like us humans! :-) Great work.
