Understanding Your Gothic Teen Kid

First off, let me say that raising any teen is hard work. I feel for anyone raising a teen, especially right now. These times are hard enough as it is. Teens go through so much more then we ever did as teens.

For example....we had bullies in our schools. But, I don't think that I ever had to go to school and worry about someone bringing a gun to school and shooting me because they didn't like how I dressed. I don't remember having the crap beat out of me on the bus because of my black makeup.

We had our cliques in school. Back then for me it was basically the mexicans...the headbangers...the preps...the punk rockers...and of course even then you had your wiggers lol. For our teens right now, they have those groups and many others to go along with those. The ones that have received the most attention though are the kids labeled as "Goths."

Gothic kids are a very unique group. There are many types of Gothic groups. Most groups dress in all black. In fact most Gothic kids only own black clothing. Alot of these kids wear lots of chains and leather bracelets...studs etc... Some of them paint their faces all white and wear lots of black eyeliner and other dark colors. Some dress almost clown like and others keep it on a much darker side. One group of Goths will be extremely religious and some are Wiccan. Another type are in to drugs...death metal...vampires...some devil worship.

If you want to understand your Gothic teen or any other teen for that matter you have to be willing to bend a little. You have to be patient and understanding and very tolerant of certain things that you might not like. As parents we have a super tough job. We have kids and we usually decide very early on what we are going to tolerate and what we aren't. Well I think we all find out the hard way that life is not that cut and dry.
