Cindy Wright's AC Interview with the Starting Line

The Starting Line is a pop punkband from the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area that formed in 1999. Their new upcoming album Direction is set to be released July 31st on Virgin Records. Members in The Starting Line are Kenny Vasoli on vocals, bass, Matt Watts on guitar and Mike Golla on guitar and Tom Gryskiewicz on drums. June 11^th I spoke with Kenny Vasoli via phone for a brief interview.

How have things been going for The Starting Line?

Kenny - Things have been going very good

What have you guys been up to?

Kenny - Well we finished up our record in February and we have been getting ready for the Warped Tour.

The new album Direction comes out July31st correct?

Kenny - Yes, July 31^st.

What can fans expect from this album?

Kenny - I think people can expect a more acceptable record than the last one. It's a very honest record, coming from all walks of life.

Did you write any of the songs on the album?

Kenny - I wrote all the songs on the album

Where do you get your inspiration for the songs that you write?

Kenny - I get inspiration from whatever is happening in my life at that point and time.

How was it having Howard Benson as your producer on this album?

Kenny - It was great. I have worked with Howard on some songs before and we had a little bit of a lack of communication and I talked with him about this and we worked together and delivered on what our vision for this album was.

Your record is with the Virgin label, which has to be amazing to be signed on the Virgin label.

Kenny - Yes, it's like a whole new life for our music, it's really good.

What is the Starting Line going to be up to this summer?

Kenny - We're going to be leaving at the end of this month for the Warped Tour and we are going to be doing that for two month's this summer.

You were discovered through the internet weren't you?

Kenny - Yes. I actually met Matt our guitar player though the internet, he found me through my AOL profile.

So do you think the internet is a good way for bands to be discovered?
