Vacation Activity Ideas for Couples with a Baby

Just because there's a new baby in the house doesn't mean you have to you're your vacation this year. There are still lots of options for vacation fun even when you have an infant. Here are some ideas for great vacation activities that mom, dad, and baby will enjoy.

Swimming. If your baby has good head control (around 4 months) then swimming is a great activity to enjoy on vacation. Most babies love the water and you will love the excitement on your baby's face as he "swims" for the first time. Just make sure that the water is warm enough and that your baby wears a swim diaper and sunscreen. Keep swim sessions to around half an hour at a time.

Hiking. By using a good quality jogging stroller or a baby backpack or front carrier (for very small infants) you can enjoy a great hike. Your baby will love all of the sights and sounds of nature. Before heading out, use bug spray on yourself and the stroller or carrier. That will be enough to keep your baby safe too. Choose a hike that is relatively flat and relatively short unless you are experienced and in great shape.

Bicycling. If you have a tow behind car for your bicycle this can be a great vacation activity for you and your baby. Just like riding in the car, most infants enjoy the bounce of a bicycle ride.

Shopping. Shopping can be great fun for the entire family. Rolling around in a stroller is fun for baby and it gives you a great place to store what you buy. Bring plenty of toys for entertainment, along with some snacks for your baby to enjoy. Stop and let your baby get out to stretch every hour or so.

Miniature Golf. Mini golf is another fun activity that your baby can enjoy along with you while in a backpack or front carrier. Sure, he might throw off your golf swing a bit, so let the parent with the baby have a five stroke handicap.

Museums. Museums are often very baby friendly. You can bring your stroller and roll through the exhibits while your baby enjoys the sights and sounds and all of the people milling about. Again, make sure you stop every hour or so for your baby to get out of the stroller and stretch.
