The 2005 MCAT Comprehensive Review by test review powerhouse Kaplan is a great source of material to review for the MCAT with. The MCAT is a standardized comprehensive test that many (if not all) pre-medical students take, generally the summer after their Junior year, and this test is looked at by medical schools when considering admitting the pre-medical students.

Kaplan is one of the biggest names in the world of MCAT review, and also offers review material in a variety of other fields. They aren't the only review source, but one of the many companies offering MCAT review products to the masses of premed students.

The Kaplan book is quite comprehensive in so much as that it covers not just sciences, but also essay writing, and the verbal essay comprehensive section of the MCAT. Biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, and physics are all covered in this book. The basic format for each science section involves several chapters covering each topic in this area of study, and then a small smattering of practice questions after the chapters are done.

The back of the book contains a full MCAT practice test, along with a CD with more material. The essay section includes several chapters on writing good, solid MCAT essays using as 'Kaplan' style method of breaking down the topic and dividing it into workable sections to write about, tackling each goal in a new section.

Finally, the verbal essay comprehension contains a few helpful hints and pointers, but is mostly a lot of practice verbal questions with an essay before. These practice questions are really useful in getting the hang of the MCAT, and they offer a good chance for one to get the basic idea of the MCAT essay questions down.
