It seems LionsGate has found a director for their comic book sequel, The Punisher 2

According to Arrow in the Head, that director is Lexi Alexander, a Germany born female director who directed the 2005 Elijah Wood film "Green Street Hooligans".

Lexi Alexander was born in Mannheim, Germany, and in her childhood, she began kickboxing and karate.

At the age of 19, she became world champion in kickboxing and karate.

After this she wanted to make films, so she went to Hollywood and started directing short films. Because her brother took her to football matches of the football team of SV Waldhof, she learned a lot about the fan scene there. Her brother was a violent fan of this team, and was also in a group of hooligans, a so-called "firm" of Waldhof. As a result, Lexi Alexander started making a film about hooligans.

The Punisher 2 script has gone through many drafts, including one by Jonathan Hensleigh, co-writer (and director) of the 2004 Punisher film. He is no longer involved with the film. The recent draft was written by Nick Santora (TV's Prison Break) and Kurt Sutter (TV's The Shield). Original Punisher star Thomas Jane left the film due to a bad script. It seems LionsGate it's still going with that script.

John Dahl (Joy Ride, Rounders) was the top frontrunner for director of the project, but turned it down.

With a screenplay finished and a director now on board all that need to do is find a new Frank Castle, unless a miracle happens and Thomas Jane returns. Here's hoping. The movie will film sometime this year in Montreal, Canada, Says Arrow in the Head.

The Punisher was released in theatres in April 2004 and although it wasn't a box office hit, it ranked in big money on DVD and a sequel was greenlight. The sequel has been in the works since 2004.

Go watch "Rome" if you've never seen Ray Stevenson. He kicks ass and then some. Wasn't looking forward to Punisher 2, but now it has possibilities. The director has an Oscar nomination even though she is pretty new. Thinking this will be very interesting.

I'm a BIG fan of the first film and thats mostly cause Thomas Jane, he owned as Frank Castle and really cared about the character. LionsGate seems not to care about the film and thats sad cause I dig them as a studio. Far better then FOX, though.

If Thomas Jane passed on this because the script was bad after he accepted the first one with it's wonderful script, I'm envisioned direct to video on this one.

I doubt this movie will be good. marvel really needs to stop trying to rake in money by making these PG-13 films and start creating comic book films that are true to the characers. Also I love film and I did not thing Greenstreet Hooligans was very good. The casting was terrible, I'm sorry but getting beaten up by Elijiah wood is not realistic unless the guy he is fightinig is 3 feet tall. If the script was so bad that Thomas Jane pulled out then you know it is going to suck. HEY MARVEL STOP BEING SO CHEAP, GET A REAL DIRECTOR LIKE David Ayer and use a script with some guts! I'm not wasting 10.50 to see this turd unless Thomas Jane is in it.

I was disappointed in the most recent Punisher movie, and if the script was bad enough to force Thomas Jane to leave, this sequel is probably going to be awful.
