When I stepped down from the boardwalk closer to the nearby building where my mother lives, I saw the bright yellow strip that was put around the main entrance to the building. I was shocked by the way it looked. It did not look right, there was something discouraging and chilling in the way it was put around. It looked as though it was separating this beautiful day from something horrific that took place at that corner. I came closer and there were five or six policemen, one of them making pictures of something inside of the yellow square. It was someone's clothing scattered on the ground; several people were staring at it and talking. When I came closer I already knew that something terrible had happened. But when I listened to what people were talking about I became confused. They were talking about groceries and bus schedules and some of them were smiling. When I asked a policeman about what had happened he briefly said, ''Somebody got shot.''
I was shocked; something had died inside of my heart, the cold feeling of terror, of death present around, of somebody's life taken during this blissful day completely overwhelmed me. How could this happen? I looked at people's faces. They seemed careless. I could not comprehend how is it possible to talk about potatoes and dirty bus tickets while standing next to the place of a murder? But these people did talk about all of these things and did not pay much of attention to what was going on around them. And at that moment I realized, that probably the most horrific part of this even had already took place. A person was shot, there was a blood around, and an ambulance with shattering sirens picked the guy up or may be left him for the care of different special services since that person was already dead. But talking about groceries?
