Dining Fun for the Whole Family at the Flying Machine

Dining out with the family can be a very expensive and exhausting experience. Many restaurants have long waits and slow service to go along with their high prices, leaving children and parents alike feeling restless. The quiet atmosphere of many restaurants also leaves children anxious to

run and play. Wouldn't it be nice if dining out could be fun for the whole family?

At The Flying Machine, located along the runway of the Gwinnett County Airport in Lawrenceville, GA, eating out can be fun for the whole family! This is especially true during the spring and summer, when warm weather makes it possible to sit and enjoy their outside patio seating.

From the road, you wouldn't expect The Flying Machine to be a great family restaurant. Housed in an industrial area along the airport's runway, it looks a little on the high-class side. As you enter through the door, however, you are greeted by a completely different outlook. Model airplanes, available for purchase, are stringed from the ceiling. The staff, dressed very casually, greets you and leads you to your table.

Inside dining offers live entertainment several nights throughout the month. On the small stage set near the entrance to the patio, a variety of singers are scheduled to perform. These singers offer a myriad of music choices, ranging from Sinatra to country to rock and roll. Just check out the calendar on The Flying Machine website for a list of events, as well as the entertainment section to view the description of each performer.

Dining on the patio is also an entertaining experience. Speakers set against the building allow diners to listen in on conversations between pilots and the control tower, alerting diners of the chance to view a landing or take-off. Children off all ages (including those in their 90s) are often pleased to watch the events at the airport. They are occasionally treated to seeing families land and park near the restaurant, then enter through the patio for dining of their own.

I've never had anything less then delicious to eat at the Flying Maching. The informal atmosphere coupled with local unpretentious talent at the mic adds to a relaxing evening. Me, my children and my grandchildren love what we find there. The deserts are all very good and it you are a 'chocolate' lover you have to order the chocolate cake. And for the men, the "greeter" in the men's room will put a smile on your face.
