If you are planning on visiting Hungary for a short period, then you will need to get a visa for yourself that relates to your stay in Hungary. When you are ready to get your Hungarian short stay visa you will see that there are currently six different types of short stay visas. They are: a visitor visa, a business visa, a tourist visa, a medical visa, a national visa and a transit visa. It is important to make sure that you apply for the correct short stay visa. And when you are ready to leave for Hungary, you will need to make sure that you have the correct documentation and visa or you can actually be denied entry to the country.

A visitor visa is valid for no longer than one year. In order to even acquire a visitor visa, you will need to be in possession of an official invitation letter. An invitation letter can be obtained by Hungarian citizens or foreigners that hold a valid residence permit for Hungary. The person will make the application for the invitation letter at the Hungarian Immigration Office by proving that your costs will be covered by them and that they will take full responsibility for you during your stay in Hungary. Once you get the invitation letter, you will submit you application for the visitor visa at you local Hungarian consulate or embassy.

A business visa is only valid for a maximum period of 90 days and also requires an official invitation letter. In this instance, the invitation letter should be applied for by the Hungarian company.

The tourist visa allows tourists the ability to stay in Hungary for a short period. The application process is relatively simple as the tourist visa is issued based on your return airline ticket, proof of accommodation which can be a hotel, and proof of sufficient financial resources to cover your stay. You can submit your application at your local Hungarian consulate.

A medical visa is reserved for instances where a foreigner is planning to travel to Hungary for medical treatment. A certificate from the medical institution rendering the treatment is required, as is proof of accommodation and sufficient financial means to cover the stay.
