It is a pathology when people are obsessed about their race or the race of others. Racial collectivism is a form of racism. Having low self esteem can lead one to have a victimization complex regarding their race as an excuse.

The reality is that people generally choose a politician based on their message. If that politician is just trying to get by on their race or only focusing on their "racial constituents" then this will turn off the majority of the voting public. Basing ones vote or candidacy on race is a recipe for failure.

The same goes for gender. If one is campaigning primarily based on their gender, then this will turn off the voters. If one votes based on gender this is immoral. Instead of obsessing about race and gender people should look at what is best for all of humanity.

Very true - I can think of a BUNCH of times when this is applicable.

Except for perhaps "Latino's" I have never heard of any candidate trying to get elected based solely on race or gender. That may not have been true in Women's Suffrage days. I do not know if voters base their vote on those things either. I remember there was a lot of stuff about JFK's age (too young) and religion (Catholic) as being reasons not to vote for him. I was of course, too young to know much about politics or how the government works.
