Founder's Day 2007 was celebrated June 8, 9, 10. It was the 72nd anniversary of Alcoholics Anonymous. Y'all gotta remember us alcoholics tend to expand and enhance all we do, so this day lasts over 60 hours. This gala event was held in Akron, Ohio the birthplace of Alcoholics Anonymous. Some folks consider this the largest family reunion of all times. Several thousand folks in recovery join together at Akron University to celebrate life in a special way. There are continuous meetings around the clock fer these 60 hours, continuous hugs, kisses, and other warm embraces. This maybe one of the few places you will see bikers exchanging ideas with a Wall Street Ceo, where a young college student may inspire a retired doctor or judge.

This gala event was attended by folks from every state in the USA, several other countries were represented also. There were tour buses fer those that wished to see the home of Dr Bob and his wife Alice, as well as all the historical sights relating to Alcoholics Anonymous. There were scheduled meetings and impromptu meetings, it has been said the campfire meetings are the best.

One of the events that cause an emotional euphoria is the big speaker meeting on Saturday night. The speaker is always an excellent orator and tells about his experience, strength and hope. Simply put he or she follows the format laid out in the Big Book, Alcoholics Anonymous, how it was before he found Alcoholics Anonymous, how he found Alcoholics Anonymous, and how his life in Alcoholics Anonymous is today After the speaker has told his story we all join hands and pray the Lord's Prayer. The electricity of thousands of folks with a common bond joining hands and praying together is something that is beyond my words. This emotional euphoria is carried home and warms the heart fer years to come.

Sounds like a truly wonderful event. And I'm with Donna - all organizations could learn something about support from AA, as well as patience, understanding, and acceptance. Thanks!

Great article and interesting note that Bill W was a Harley man. I think if more churches and do-good non-profits were modeled after AA as far as support there would be a lot more positive impact on people's lives.

OOOOPPPPS I made a mistake. Dr Bob's wife's name is Annie not Alice. Sorry 'bout the goof.
