When a young kid begins fishing, there are many things that he/she must know before setting off on their first fishing trip. We don't want the children getting hurt or getting lost. That would be tragic. I am going to share with you some safety tips for kids that can be very useful when going fishing with your children. These are aimed at the children, so you can even print this out and share it with your kids so that they know what they should do and not do when they want to go fishing.

To start off with, your child always need to be supervised when fishing. If you cannot be there with them fishing, make sure that they have a friend with them or someone that you trust so that if anything were to go wrong, they can get help. The problem with being alone is that your child could get hurt, and not be able to get any help. That is why children should never fish alone.

Another thing that you want to remind you kid about is the weather. If it looks like it is going to storm, it is time to go home. Lightning can be very dangerous around water. Be sure that you explain to your kids about lighting and to always avoid it if they ever see it. You just don't want to take the change of getting hurt or possibly killed by lightning.

If your child cannot swim, it is very important that your child wear a life jacket. There is always a possibility that your child may fall in the water. Your kids may resist this at first, but you need to explain to them what could happen if they fall in the water. Even if your child can swim, I advise all children to wear life jackets around bodies of water. I don't know what I would do if I ever lost a child.

If your child is going to go fishing, and cannot swim, I advise that you take them to get swimming lessons. If they are going to fish, they need to be able to swim. You can take them down to the local pool and spend a few days with them and they will probably take right to it. If your child is still too young to swim, make sure that they keep a life jacket on.
