Angelina Jolie, star of the current film "A Mighty Heart," (a biopic about murdered reporter Daniel Pearl), struck an odd tone at the premiere of the flick, first by requiring that all reporters abide by a set of interview guidelines or risk having the interview immediately terminated. The film's premiere, ironically, was intended to support the Paris-based reporters-rights organization called Reporters Without Borders, a group that - according to its official website - "fights against censorship and laws that undermine press freedom," and has been doing so "on a daily basis since it was founded in 1985."According to reporters who refused to sign on the dotted line to interview Jolie, and as reported by FOX News, the actress was asking any potential interviews to agree they would "not ask Ms. Jolie any questions regarding her personal relationships. In the event Interviewer does ask Ms. Jolie any questions regarding her personal relationships, Ms. Jolie will have the right to immediately terminate the interview and leave."
In addition, the FOX News report went on, the agreement also stipulated "the interview may only be used to promote the Picture. In no event may Interviewer or Media Outlet be entitled to run all or any portion of the interview in connection with any other story. ... The interview will not be used in a manner that is disparaging, demeaning, or derogatory to Ms. Jolie."
Finally, saying that the potential existed to "cause Jolie irreparable harm," the Hollywood star also demanded that "the tape of the interview will not be released to Interview" if any of the above events were to transpire, and that Jolie would have the right to seek a restraining order and contemplate a lawsuit against the reporter.
According to a report on FOX News and other outlets, reporters from both USA Today and the Associated Press cancelled interviews when faced with Jolie's demands, and after enough backlash, Jolie eventually decided to do away with all print interviews.
