My son does not like the lunches offered at school so he takes a brown bag lunch with him. This reminds me that I just got a letter from the school saying he owed $3.60 for lunch. I had to call and tell them he doesn't ever take school lunch. He would rather not eat lunch then eat school lunch.I really don't know why he doesn't care for school lunch because I don't think the lunch is all that bad? Or is it? I am not really there to say one way or another if the school lunch is bad. He will be a senior this year and he hasn't had school lunch since he was in the third grade. That is a long time.
My son tells me that when I make him a school lunch that it feels like a love him. I guess it is a small thing to do everyday to tell someone you love them so I continue to do it.
When I make a brown bad lunch I usually put in a sandwich of some kind that is peanut butter or turkey meat. We are trying to eat healthier around here so we tend to stay away from fatty foods. We only use natural peanut butter when we make peanut butter sandwiches.
I also have a vegetable like carrot sticks or celery sticks. I will put lettuce on a meat sandwich and maybe some onion or tomato. My son has told me recently I have to cut out the onion since it gives him bad breath.
A piece of fruit is also put in the brown bag lunch. A banana or apple is very easy to put in a brown bag lunch and they are his favorite fruit so it works out well. Sometimes I buy little cartons of mandarin orange slices to put in his lunch.
And for a grand finally he gets dessert. A large cookie is a great end to a brown bag lunch. Or a brownie wrapped in a baggy works well. If I am feeling real generous I will put in a candy bar for his desert.
When he was in grade school I would draw little pictures on the bag with a magic marker or a note inside his bag lunch. Since he has been in high school he has told me I can't draw pictures or put notes in his lunch anymore. This is hard for me to do sometimes since I like to let him know I love him. I guess he is right my bag lunches are a way to say I love you.
