One of Chicago's greatest assets is its museums. From art to dinosaurs, visitors can explore a whole new world in just a few hours. Whether you are a longtime resident, or an out-of-town visitor, Chicago's museums have something for everyone. Here are a few of these can't-miss sights:

The Art Institute of Chicago
Founded in 1879, The Art Institute of Chicago is one of the world's top art museums. The bronze lion sculptures guarding the entrance are two of Chicago's most recognizable landmarks. Boasting a huge collection of art that includes European works from the 13th century on, as well as Contemporary Art, African and Asian Art, Photography and more, a trip to the Art Institute is like traveling through time. The museum is renowned for its Impressionism collection, which features the work of Monet, Renior, Degas, Pisarro and more. One of the museum's hidden gems is the Thorne Miniature Rooms exhibit, which features a number of dollhouse-sized rooms featuring European and American interiors from the late 13th century to the 1930s rendered in exquisite detail. Visitors will marvel over these tiny masterpieces. For families with young children, the Kraft Education Center offers a number of interactive exhibits, art projects and games. And no visit to The Art Institute would be complete without a stop at The Garden Restaurant, where diners enjoy their meals amongst the museum's lush gardens.
