One more reason to possibly vote a Democrat in to the White House in 2008 is that party's willingness to promote and make available fuel cell and other alternative energy sources to consumers, as opposed to current administration policy.

That's according to fuel cell expert and Senior Research Analyst James Horwitz, the keynote speaker and fuel cell expert, who spoke during the

Environmentally friendly fuel alternatives would not only help address the very real crisis of global warming, but would also in the long run save consumers money on their fuel and utility bills.

Horwitz expressed his feelings of frustration and dissatisfaction in the way the Bush administration, particularly Dick Cheney, has repeatedly tried to block efforts to commercialize fuel cells for consumer use.

In an interview with reporters during the conference, Horwitz described the government's tactics to squash fuel cell use for consumers in this country .

Horwitz has done advanced work in fuel cell research and technology and has worked alone and in conjunction with the Department of Energy. Horwitz claimed that, during various meetings with government officials and governmental agencies, it was apparent that this technology was intentionally being kept out of the hands of consumers.

"There's policy being determined by big oil," he said. "What you have is an extreme lack of support and coordination of government support for programs."

He said that government officials currently seem to be more in favor of funding and promoting development of environmentally harmful technologies such as nuclear power. When asked if a Democrat was elected president would the situation change, Horwitz said it would.

Another contributing factor to the lack of fuel cell development and availability for consumers, according to Horwitz, is the government uses military standards as the standards for commercialized products that consumers would typically use.
