Skin microdermabrasion continues to build in popularity among women. Let's face it, we all want our skin to look as beautiful and youthful as humanly possible. But microdermabrasion isn't a new process. It has been used for more than a ten years in many European countries, which might help to account for the enviable beauty of that continent's women.

Although physicians have long known that exfoliating the skin anywhere on the body gives it a much younger appearance, older out-dated microdermabrasion systems proved to be either too costly or basically ineffective. Some, in fact, were harmful to delicate, sensitive, and aging skin. Today, however, there are a number of microdermabrasion systems on the market. While some are more effective than others are, most are successful on some level. The key is to find the right microdermabrasion system for you.

Most systems employ a type of cream that contains finely ground crystals. They gently exfoliate the skin, removing surface cells damaged by the sun and the ravages of time. The process removes the outer layer, thereby allowing the underlying new skin to shine through.

The gentle vibration of the resurfacing tool helps to stimulate blood flow and circulation, encouraging the new skin to give off a radiant, youthful glow. In essence, microdermabrasion allows women to turn back the hands of time to diminish the appearance of skin discoloration; to balance skin tones; and to make fine lines and wrinkles appear to fade away.

Two of my favorite microdermabrasion systems are Youthful Essence (by Susan Lucci) and SkinVitalizer (by Dove). Let's compare and contrast the two systems:

Takeaways
  • Microdermabrasion continues to build in popularity.
  • A lot of systems on the market work well, but not on every skin type.
  • The Dove system is less expensive and less abrasive than Youthful Essence.

I just received the dove system as a gift and have been trying it out. I really like it so far! It did make my skin a little red at first, but not painful and it feels so smooth! Great comparison!

Hm, I've never tried one of these -- the Dove certainly sounds affordable!

Will try the Dove. I love the fresh feeling of exfoliation, also. I've used Mary Kay, but the price goes up even more. (Ugh!)
