I am not much for reality shows, particularly ones like American Idol. However, every now and then someone comes out of no where to inspire people from all walks of life. Overnight sensation Paul Potts recently appeared on "Britain's Got Talent," the English version of American Idol. In less than thirty seconds Paul Potts went from a bullied kid to a mobile phone salesman to an international sensation. The judges and audience members were prepared to make fun of this geeky looking opera singer, but what they heard stunned them.

Potts' first audition brought tears to the eyes of judges and audience members alike. Even Simon Cowell was speechless. The thing that was most impressive about Paul Potts' performance was that he sang opera, a genre generally thought of as too formal for today's reality show demographic. I am not a big opera fan myself, but must confess that I watched the YouTube video of his performance about a dozen times. I then immediately called my wife and kids in to watch the clip, and then emailed it to everyone I knew. It was that moving...and I am not easily moved!

I predict Paul Potts will be an instant hit, selling out opera houses all over Europe, and hopefully here in the states. Perhaps we have just witnessed Opera's next Pavarotti. Paul Potts is to opera what Tiger Woods was to golf. He has instantly transformed his passion of opera into a mainstream success with followers from all walks of life. His inspiring performance in the semifinals has skyrocketed his fame across England, and the internet community.

Simon Cowell and Paul Potts: Voices of emotion? A charade that elicits my true emotions, especially if greedy, is a scam. "Britain's Got Talent" show owner, Simon Cowell, recently was crowned with a virtuoso talent search winner, Paul Potts. A mutual contract is prized by both men. His operatic music will bless the world. "I am Paul Potts" rings true to every person's value and hope for life. He has a magnificent voice. Yet, world class talent does not develop in a vacuum. Is Paul Potts' "underdog" status formed by Simon Cowell to manipulate our emotions, and further fatten pocket books, unfairly? I shed tears and replayed video sections several times to take in the emotions of singer, judges, and audience. The only other event that exceeded my awe and wonder, in a different way, was the 9-11 twin towers attack. I was amazed with Paul Potts' concentration, constant tonal pitch; diaphragm and full body delivery; formation from the full throat, vibrato control: absolute co

I am not into this type of music. But I saw a clip of him singing on a morning talk show and I have to admit, he seem good. I like the fact that he is an adult, too. He will probably appreciate this new fame even more than this young kids who keep winning our titles.

I just saw the story on tv, that is absolutely amazing. I saw the looks on the judges faces too, I'm really glad he was able to prove to them he really was worth people taking notice of him.

I enjoyed his singing very much, but it's worth noting that he's not just some amateur. He's been working very hard at this, studying with some fine instructors and performing with some notable opera schools. Good for him!
