How to Create a Great Wedding Registry

Registering is the ultimate solution to a wedding gift list. As soon as you are engaged it is preferable to register therefore engagement, shower or wedding gifts can be purchased from the lists and given and or prepared to be given at the wedding. Some may have awkward feelings about registering because they are in turn, telling the guests what to buy but we have to remember that the benefits far outweigh the negative aspects of registering. Your registry will serve as a guide for your guests, this may be the most helpful thing that you can do to ease the difficulty of finding the perfect gift.
If it is improper etiquette to let your guests know that you are registered for gifts with an enclosure in the invitation, than what is the proper way to alert guest of your gift preferences? It is ideal that parents and attendants know about the registry so that they know the answer when they are asked, and they will be asked! As well, you will be asked and it is alright for you to let the guests know where you are registered at. It is never acceptable to enclose a registry information card with the invitation. A good rule of thumb that I like to follow within regards to invitations is this: the only thing that should be included in an invitation is something you are able to get on the same stationary.
It is ideal to register in one place to ensure ease of use for your guests. Two stores are acceptable but that is where you should draw the line. Guests would prefer to shop at one place to find that special gift rather than trying to find it at a few different stores.
It has become increasingly popular to choose unconventional gifts such as camping, and golf gear if you have many things set up in your home - especially if you have been living together prior to your big day. We are seeing more registries with these items, and it is acceptable because the couple will use them, and enjoy the gifts!
There are many ways for your guests to buy gifts - they can go into the store, shop through a catalog or even online. This is convenient for the out of town guests who may not make it to the wedding, as the store ships for them - and they don't have to worry about it.
