The Chicago Tribune is reporting that Christopher Vaughn, 32, of Oswego, left the Illinois State Police headquarters last night after speaking with investigators about the events that led up to the murder of his entire family. Vaughn is not considered a suspect.

State police, Capt. Carl Dobrich, who is overseeing the investigation, informed the public that there was no further danger, because it was believed that all the people involved had been accounted for. He added that Vaughn had been very cooperative and gave them a good understanding as to the events that led up to the tragedy. The investigation is continuing.

Vaughn told police that the family had planned a long getaway this weekend, and were headed to the bed-and-breakfast where they honeymooned in Missouri.

Vaughn told the police that his wife fired shots at him and struck him in the leg, after he apparently stopped to adjust the vehicles luggage rack. He then says he ran for help from passersby asking them to call the police. When he returned to his car, his children and wife were dead from gunshot wounds.

The family moved to Oswego in May of 2006, when they purchased their home in which they were recently featured in a Real Estate Article of the Chicago Sun-Times. They talked about how much they enjoyed the area and subdivision in which they resided. Kimberly recently had taken an attendant position at the subdivisions clubhouse and had taken her children swimming there on Wednesday evening. Prior to purchasing their home, they lived in an Aurora apartment complex, where Christopher had run his cyber-crimes investigation firm.

According to the Chicago Tribune former neighbors at the apartment complex described them as a clean cut family with well mannered children. The Vaughn children -- ages 12, 11 and 8 -- were described as being very bright and academic achievers, with interest in science, arts and reading.

Well, we never really know the full story of what happens in the lives of other people but some, like this one, are hard to comprehend. It's especially painful that the children had to be involved. Thanks for the report!

How awful and sad. I've never understood these murder/suicide things. If you want to kill yourself, fine. Just leave other people out of it. ESPECIALLY your own children.
