Erie is a tourist attraction city located in the Northwest corner of Pennsylvania. It is sometimes called the Gem City because of the sparkling lake. But it seems like everyone that lives in Erie wants to get out. They always talk about packing up and moving on. But I just can't see why Erie is such a bad place to live. We have a little bit of everything right at our fingertips. Erie has a numerous amount of activities, year-round, for the early birds and night owls, alike. Named after one of the great lakes, Erie offers a wide variety of outdoor beachy fun. Annually over 4 million people visit Presque Isle to swim, hike, fish, and boat. The park offers eleven beautiful sandy beaches, all portraying different attractions. Some have lifeguards on duty, volleyball nets, bathhouses, concession stands, and more. Some unguarded beaches are more peaceful and laidback. There are over fifteen miles of trails available for hiking, jogging, bicycling, walking and cross country skiing. Ice fishing also draws out many fishermen from hibernation in the long winter months.
Visit the Tom Ridge Environmental Center to access more information about the history of Presque Isle as well as the many fun activities in the surrounding area. The center is a place of fun in itself with interactive and rotating exhibits, entertaining films, dining, and shopping. This is also a wonderful place to learn with research, lectures, specialized programs, and classroom education. Here you can experience the thrill and exhilaration of the "big green screen". This green theater is four stories high, thirty-three feet wide, and can seat 175 people. It puts you inside the action, as if you were really there. A small fee is charged for this imagination roller coaster but general admission is FREE.
