I recently watched You, Me and Dupree thanks to my fiancé's On Demand. I couldn't find anything better to watch and since I was given control of the remote, I figured I would try and find a movie we could get lost in and just laugh a bit. We agreed on You, Me and Dupree. Well, it was more than my fiancé, I'll be fair.

But could you blame me? I think Kate Hudson is adorable. Owen Wilson's acting is always good for a laugh. I don't even mind Matt Dillon. How could you not after Something About Mary? Alas, I have to retort that You, Me and Dupree wasn't even in the same league as Something About Mary. Not even close.

The movie begins with Matt Dillon and Kate Hudson's characters as Carl and Molly, on the verge of newlywedded-ness. In a weird casting decision, Michael Douglas plays Kate Hudson's father, Mr. Thompson, as well as Carl's boss. Already, we see there will be a lot of expansion on this relationship.

My first problem with the movie is, I don't understand why Carl and Molly are together. In the beginning, all Carl did was anything Molly said. He was like a little puppy that bowed to every command. I was unable to see the fascination of Molly exception that her trendy little outfits were pretty cute. But let me stay on track here. It's bad enough that the audience is unable to make out why Carl and Molly are together that we realize, the people playing these characters have even less chemistry together. Hudson and Dillon seem to be making a genuine effort to show they are in love and eventually, in wedded bliss but it never came across as convincing.

Owen Wilson is playing the same character he plays in every movie -- the adult child who is so lovable and quirky, who can resist? I do have to admit, his hair and style was a bit more "surfer-boy" than I previously remember. In any case, I wasn't too upset about Wilson's acting or character. I just felt it wasn't really used to its full potential. To me, it seemed more that the writing just sucked and Wilson tried to do the best that he could.

Did You Know?
According to imdb.com, there is a scene where Owen Wilson is running through a parking lot and you can see the yellow van from Little Miss Sunshine in the same parking lot. That's the only good thing about this movie.
