Ron Paul Internet Success May Reflect Deeper Trend, Study Results Suggest

Pew Research Center Study Shows that More and More Voters Are Getting Their Political Information from the Internet

A January research study completed by the Pew Research Center (Election 2006 Online - Pew Research Study) suggests that more Americans are relying on the internet as a source of political news. As such, the recent online success the Republican

presidential candidate Ron Paul has achieved should not be immediately discounted, as suggested by political pundits such as Rush Limbaugh (Is Ron Paul Internet Buzz Real or Spam?).

To the contrary, the Pew/Internet research study titled "Election 2006 Online" stated that 15% of Americans relied on the internet for their primary source of election news, compared with 18% in 2004 (the last presidential election) and 11% in 2000. If the 64% increase between the two previous presidential elections continued for the 2008 presidential election, then this would correlate to 29% of Americans viewing the internet as their primary source of political news. This would be good news for Dr. Paul, as his campaign buzz has reached an almost fevered pitch online (Presidential Candidate Ron Paul Gains Popularity on the Internet).

As more Americans choose to use the internet as a primary source of political information, less and less are choosing to pick up the newspaper. Only 34% of Americans viewed the newspaper as a source of election news in 2006, as compared with 57% in 1992. Television as a source of election news also significantly decreased from 82% to 69% over the same period (note that the numbers don't add to 100% as people were allowed to select more than one "primary" source in this survey).

The internet is always ahead of the curve in news, because words spread like wildfire instead of filtering down through a hierarchy to become diluted and corroded. What we see on the net is significant: It shows the opinion of the most engaged and educated. Education does not have to come from a degree. The internet is the only media that allows complete freedom of thought. It's not going away, so people will become more aware. Keep it up, everyone! You're doing your duty as a citizen of this country. I'm getting to the point where I can spot Ron Paul fans sometimes. They are the ones who really know what's going on right now, and that knowledge is priceless. Dissent is patriotism.

So, my thought is that the people in the US are relying on alternative news sources because they know that the mainstream media is just that, pop, mainstream. So of course they are going to find the real answers.

I agree ROn Paul has a huge base. Base on the new Internet Political Performance index he is holding strong. Compared to other candidates he is considerbaly ahead. Internet Impact on Election 2008 I think the Internet indicators are going to provide a good glimps into the more unknown candidates. Those with strong Internet performance will have good base to get out the vote. Take a look at how things are shaping out form this weeks Internet perofrmance index. Impact of Internet on 2008 Election It's a bit amazing to see Ron Paul leading the republicans. Yet he did win the Washington state straw poll so could be an early indicator of the power of the Internet on the 2008 election. href=http://www.spartaninternet.com/2008/byParty.asp?tab=2

The truth is out there. The truth is that our currency, and our country will fall unless we the people act now. The truth isnt hidden, its suppressed. Thank God murdoch only controls myspace and aol, not the entire internet, lets not hand it over to him on a silver spoon. Dr. Ron Paul is the only person with enough courage to stand up and impliment policies that will restore my faith in the ability of this government to adapt and persevere, let alone the respect our country once had in the eyes of the world. The problems we face are extreemly difficult to solve, so we should start now. Dr. Paul is the only man who seems competent and virtuous enough to put America back on the path originally designed for us by our forefathers. I would give my life for this man. Thank you Ron Paul, for restoring my faith in humanity.

The political realities of today's world disgust myself and many of my peers to the point of apathy for our own lives. We feel that the government and its marketplace force us to run the rat race and if we dissnet we will be labeled idiots or terrorists. It seems that those men and women representing the American people are ultimatly controlled by a system that is not easily seen or readily accepted, and far from honest representation. An individual's belief in what the mainstream media has disregarded as conspiracy theories depends on how far down the rabbit hole any of you have traveled. The more research I do, the more angry and hopeless I become. Not one of the men or woman aspiring for the presidency has attempted to show that they do not wish to follow the rules set forth not by the Constitution, but by entities outside of the government. It seems that most people supporting Ron Paul are open to the evindence suggesting that we have been lied to about many important issues.
