We all know that we need to drink water to maintain optimum health. But just how much is enough? Should we let thirst be our guide? How can we make the transition from soft drinks and caffeinated drinks to just plain old water? The following article will address these issues and discuss ways in which everyone can take action to incorporate more water into their everyday life. How to train yourself to drink more water #1 Start the day off with a drink of water
It is a good idea to start the day off right by drinking a glass of water along with your breakfast. Remember that if you are a tea or coffee drinker, you will need to drink a glass of water just to counteract the dehydrating effects of these drinks. Tea and coffee may perk you up first thing in the morning, but they are not refreshing, thirst quenching drinks.
How to train yourself to drink more water #2 Take bottles of water with you wherever you go
Do not just wait for mealtimes to drink a glass of water. By then you will be parched. Take bottles of water with you wherever you go and drink regularly. The average, healthy adult should try to drink about 2 litres of water each day. Overweight or obese people will need to drink more water. If you are exercising, then this amount will also need to increase. The same is true if you are going to be spending prolonged periods of time outside in the hot sun in order to avoid the damaging results of dehydration and heat exhaustion.
How to train yourself to drink more water #3 Consider the health benefits
Look at your attitude to water and then consider what you hope to achieve. Water is great for people who are trying to lose weight, as adequate supplies of water will help to naturally suppress a person's appetite, making them feel fuller for longer. If you suffer from fluid retention, one of the best ways to combat this problem (apart from taking a prescribed diuretic) is to drink plenty of water. The reason why the body retains water is because you have not provided it with enough water, which is why the ankles and feet swell. Water helps the body in so many other ways, by helping to flush out toxins and it can relieve constipation.
