Donations and income from abortions may have been down, but the annual report of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) for 2005-06 showed high profits for the organization, the largest abortion provider in the United States.

According to a CNS News report, posted on CNSNews.com, PPFA performed 264,943 abortions (a record), had a profit of $55.8 million and received taxpayer funding of $305.3 million from a combination of federal, state, and local governments.

CNS News attempted to contact the organization for comments on income and profits, but calls were not returned. According to CNS, the PPFA website says the "report illustrates the achievements of an organization funded to prevent unintended pregnancy and protect women's health and safety." The report noted the increasing attacks on a woman's sexual and reproductive rights.

Jim Sedlak, executive director of Stop Planned Parenthood, told CNS that taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood needs to be stopped. Although he admitted it was a good year for PPFA, he also noted that there are potential troubles ahead for the organization. For example, PPFA had their first decline in abortion income-down $1.5 million from the previous year-in the history of the organization. Donations were also down. Taxpayer funding, however, was up 12% over the previous year. Sedlak, in referring to the taxpayer funding, told CNS, "The bottom line is that Planned Parenthood is losing donations, its clinic income is down, and you and I are being forced to pay more so the organization can kill our children through abortion and spread its perverted ideology throughout the land."

CNS says that in an earlier report it had noted the financial struggles of PPFA. Sedlak said that it was only because of taxpayer funding that PPFA was able to avoid an overall decline in income.

Jennifer, I reread the source articles that I summarized for my article, and I think I did a good job of passing on the essence of the articles. If there is a slant, it was in the original articles. I'm through debating about this. I'll let you have the last word, if you want it. I look forward to your responses to my questions in my article, "Four Questions for Atheists." I'm open to learning other viewpoints. Thanks.

Sure...totally objective. You wrote with no slant at all....

I was merely summarizing a news article. Did you write to CNS and complain to them?

That goes for you too, Bible Doc - I have no nicer way to say it. When you get a uterus, then you can control one.

Marquis - what right do YOU have to say anything about womens' choice? YOU sicken me.

It is wonderful that Planned Parenthood is being shut down. It sickens me that they hide ages of girls who are not yet 18. It sickens me that they help kill unborn babies as well. Now if only abortion would be illegal as it once was. No irresponsible feminist would be able to make excuses and hide behind "a woman's right to choose".

If Planned Parenthood went back to their original foundation of PREVENTING pregnancy, I'd have less (less, but still some) of a problem with them. But I don't think my tax dollars should go to fund abortions.

They didn't report ANY adoption referrals and yet performed 264,943 abortions? Can anyone honestly think there isn't an agenda? At the very least they are not informing clients of adoption resources and are thus really limiting their choices. And they call that pro choice? What choices are they giving women? Apparently only one.

Here's an invite to read my article on how a church can help adoptive families.

It sickens me that there are people out there looking to shutdown Planned Parenthood.
