There are many people that will classify themselves as moviegoers, movie fans, movie fanatic, movie buffs, movie cultists, or movie connoisseurs. Most people do not have a clear understanding that there are major differences between these classifications.

Moviegoers:

This term was created by the movie industry for anyone who goes to see a movie. It does not matter if that person goes once, or five hundred times a year, he or she is still just a moviegoer. It is a generic term that does not have any significant meaning.

Movie Fan

A movie fan is also a slightly generic classification to denote anyone who has a high interest in watching movies. The person might be a fan of a certain movie, or genre.

Movie Fanatic

Granted, fan is a short version of fanatic, but a movie fanatic is someone that holds a slightly higher classification in the minds of those in Hollywood. Movie fanatics are more likely to go to see movies on a regular basis then any of the other classifications on the list.

In a way, movie fanatics are the cash cow of the movie industry. These are the people that hold movies are their favorite form of entertainment. They will be regularly seen in movie theaters, and have extensive DVD collections.

Movie Buff

A movie buff is a person that can retain a lot of trivial information about movies. Their minds are set up for remembering who was in what, and when certain movies came out. Movie buffs are the people that you want on your team during any game that involves movie trivia.

Movie Cultist

We all have at least one friend who is a movie cultist. Many of us fall into this category and do not even know it.

Movie cultists are the fans of cult movies. This classification is twofold in the fact that it can describe a person that is a fan of all cult movies, or of a particular cult movie. If you would like a longer explanation of cult movies and cult movie fans, just click on this sentence to be sent to an article about them.

Movie Connoisseurs

A Hollywood director's dream, and nightmare, is a movie connoisseur. I fall into this category, so I can speak with experience.

Fun article! As a connoisseur, I'll have the '46 Film Noir. I hear it was an excellent year.

And then there's "continuity buffs" (see here: http://www.moviemistakes.com/best.php ). I liked how you closed this article and can agree with you there- I'm harder on most of the current audiences just because people keep making way too many lame comedies that are imitations of other lousy comedies and only have hot chicks in some of the takes to get something out of the films... What are some of the kind of comedies I'd love to see?? "Beavis & Butthead" if it still had it's appeal... And also a "Bill & Ted 3". That'd rule! Of course only problem is Alex Winters vanished off the face of the earth sometime after "Bogus Journey" and hasn't been in any movies (though apparently he hasn't OD'd or started working the streets or panhandling since he was in an article in the last few years saying some words about Keanu Reeves). It would be nothing like the TV live-action or animated serials because they sucked anyway... Why did they suck? Because they were too separate from any cont

While I have an extensive DVD collection, and can pull the oddest movie trivia crap outta thin air on occasion, I think I fall closer to Cult.
