Why People Tolerate Contraceptives but Not Abortion

The issue of abortion is one that brings disagreement among many people. At almost every abortion clinic in the country you will find people outside opposing abortions. There are two sides to this issue. On one side, people feel that it is a woman's choice to have an abortion if she has an unwanted pregnancy. On the other side, people feel that an abortion kills a human life and it should be viewed as murder.

With the use of contraceptives, pregnancy is avoided which lessens the chance that an abortion will be needed. Since the pregnancy usually never occurs if the contraceptive is used properly, there is no egg to be fertilized. If a human life is not created, there is no human life to terminate. This eliminates using an abortion in the first place, making it a nonissue.

Although the use of contraceptives also interferes with the creation of life, it does so in a different way. If there were no contraceptives, every part of the world would be much too overpopulated, which would create a shortage of food, shelter, and other things that are vital to our survival. Since all people would be affected, the rate of mortality would be overwhelmingly high. Most people realize this, and therefore, have come to accept that contraceptives are a good way to keep our population somewhat under control.

In the event that contraceptives are either unsuccessful or not used properly, in the United States, abortion is an option for a woman who either does not have the desire to be a mother or who is not ready to have a child due to age, financial resources, or other reasons. There are also many women who do not use contraceptives because in the event that they were to become pregnant, they know that they can simply get an abortion. And there are other circumstances that would lead to a woman getting an abortion, such as being a victim of rape, or having serious health problems that would make carrying a child and giving birth too risky for either mother, child, or both.
