Lies Your Parents Told You While Growing Up

When growing up our parents will tell us some lies. Some of them they will tell us to keep us out of trouble others they will tell us so we don't do the things they did. Funny as it can be its very typical of parents sometimes to tell fibs to sidetrack us or so we won't do something. The list can be long I only high light some of the most obvious in this article.

You can't have that cause its adult candy. Mom and dad in order to be able to eat their favorite candy bar without sharing it with us will lie telling us we can't have it cause its not for kids. This works well until the child is older than it doesn't work anymore. As you get older parents will have a private stash of their favorite items. They don't want to share everything with us so they will lie.

They will also brag about how far they had to walk to school in the cold. Many times those blocks or miles will stretch as you get older. They can't be outdone by us and when we complain about having to wait for the bus in the cold they will tell us there wasn't any buses for them. The no buses may be true but the distance they walked is always greatly exaggerated.

When it comes to birthdays or Christmas they will remind you that their parents were dirt poor and they were lucky to get a shirt and orange for Christmas. I think some parents pass these stories around. As you get older you come to find out they did not have it as bad as they claim.

Another lie they tell you is if you go to college you will get the best jobs. If you apply yourself you will never have to shovel manure for a living. I remembered this as I cleaned up garbage off a floor at work with a shovel. Some of our best college grads have taken lowly jobs. You can spend up to $100,000 for school only to shovel shit.

Another lie they tell you is that money cannot buy happiness. I don't think I am really unhappy when I have money in my pocket. When I can't cover the rent or buy food I am not jumping for joy about it. Money doesn't buy happiness but it doesn't make you unhappy either.
