Everyone loves the romantic glow of a candle and as demand for them goes up, so does the price. The great thing about candles is that you can easily make them at home with scents that are sure to please.

The easiest type of candle to make at home is a beeswax candle. Sheets of beeswax can be purchased from most any craft store. The sheet of beeswax is simply rolled around the wick, being careful to keep the top and bottom even so that the candle will sit on a candle holder once it is complete. Beeswax candles burn cleaner than a paraffin candle but the down side is that scents can not be added.

The process to make a paraffin candle is a bit more detailed but can still be accomplished easily at home. The best part of making your own paraffin candle is that you get to choose the scent. Feel free to mix and match until you have the perfect aroma for your home. To make your own paraffin candle, you will need to visit a craft supply store to purchase scents, wick and melt and pour paraffin. If you are not going to be using a jar or a glass container for your candle, a mold will be necessary as well.

For a quick and easy candle, find a mason jar or other glass container that will sit flat. Cut a section of wick that is at least 2 inches longer than the container is tall. Tie one end of the wick around a pencil and allow the other end to hang down into the container until it reaches the bottom. If the wick is too long, it is easy to wrap it around the pencil until the desired length is reached.

Once the wick is the proper length, it is time to melt the paraffin. Depending upon the paraffin that you have purchased, this may be as simple as a few minutes in the microwave. Follow package directions for the particular paraffin that you have purchased in order to achieve the best results.
