Cracking ice beneath the wheels of a tractor trailer, the driver wonders if the ice road beneath him will hold. Get a view from the tenuous driver's seat, June 17, 2007, as Ice Road Truckers premiers on the History Channel at 10pm/9 central.

According to The History channel, the series is set to be an exciting, real life adventure chronicling the lives of six courageous truckers as they transverse frozen tundra in Canada's Northwest Territory. Ice road trucking is a deadly job, taking truckers over the most dangerous roads, frozen lakebeds of ice, that lead to three Diamond mines in the Northwest Territory.

According to history.com, the road, known as the Diamond Road, has been responsible for the deaths of dozens of drivers over the years. Truckers transverse the deadly road to delivery necessary supplies to the diamond mines. All the while, they risk not only ice rupturing beneath their rig, but jackknifing and accidents on the slick road are common.

The men featured on the History Channel risk their lives to make their living, and live their lives to take the risk. History.com introduces the drivers: Alex, Drew, Hugh, Jay, Rick, and TJ as men of courage, wit, and tenacity necessary to take on this job. Drew is and experienced driver, but rookie on the Diamond Road, but he is confident in his ability to make the trip. Hugh is a native Canadian who has been driving the road for years. Not only does he drive the road, he owns three other trucks which he sends over the Diamond Road each year. Father, grandfather, and lay minister Alex is ready behind the wheel, and known among the other drivers for his wit and wisdom. Jay is a young father, with lots of talent. Rick is a braggadocios second year driver, who works for Hugh. T.J. is the youngest of the group, and among the men, the supposed underdog. According to history.com, T.J. hates the cold and hates ice. He claims to be on the frozen road for the experience. History Channel producers cast a doubtful eye on T.J. because of his inexperience and attitude. He is also a rookie.

Iam surprised they allow older un-maintained trucks on the ice road.in the lower 48 states it is hard to get a cross country job for an older truck.in defence of Hugh you have to be a good baby sitter to have sucsess with a lot of drivers .I have enjoyed the show.

So, Robin, I take it you don't like Hugh? Anyone else want to weigh in? It's like the trucks weighing in on that ice. Don't you find yourself holding your breath?

Like the show but Hugh has to change his attitude. He has the resources to have 3 drivers for his trucks. His trucks are absolutely poorly maintained and Hugh blames it all on his drivers. He is full of himself and should be ashamed to let anyone drive a truck without heat and all the other nonsense issues. Why wasn't that equipment 100% before hitting the road.Bottomline he is a very poor example of a truck owner. His former drivers had issues but Drew was entertaining. Sorry, I do not like Hugh.
