There is more to Phoenix Greyhound Park at the moment than Coldwater Torres, but one cannot help but focus on this greyhound's wonderful achievements of late. His winning streak reached nineteen this week, but there were outstanding performances by several other racers on the grounds in the Arizona desert as well. A few of those had that familiar Coldwater name, but there were some that did not, a number of speed demons coming into their own as top grade threats at Phoenix Greyhound Park. And Torres himself had to withstand a huge stretch run to keep his skein intact by perhaps the second best dog at the track, Andrews Postcard.

On Monday night, June 11th, Torres took his eighteenth straight, by four lengths from the eight hole in 30.73 seconds for the 5/16ths of a mile distance. Torres, who is to the Phoenix Greyhound Park competition what the Roadrunner was to Wily Coyote, was never challenged, as he paid just $2.10 to win. The quiniela, with Phoenix Gator running second, had a great payoff considering how overwhelming a favorite Torres was, returning over $32.00. On the same card, a Maiden named RLM's Argie won his first time out, this after recording a twenty length victory in schooling and making the blue brindle male a dog to keep an eye on in the coming weeks at Phoenix.
