Find a teacher. While it is possible to learn a new language on your own, having someone more experienced who can correct you will help keep you on your toes. Your teacher doesn't necessarily have to be a professional. Rather simply asking a friend who knows the language to speak with you will help you exercise your vocabulary and pronunciation at a quick pace. If you don't know anyone who speaks your selected language, you might ask one of your friends if they would like to learn with you. Having a practice partner who holds you accountable for improvement helps immensely.
Flash cards. These help increase your vocabulary. Even if you never use the flash cards again, simply writing out the words is good practice. Flash cards are convenient way to practice because you can generally carry them with you and learn a couple words regardless of where you are. Try looking at them during commercial breaks or while waiting in line. You'll be surprised how much you'll learn without ever officially dedicating time to intense study.
