Children as well as adults should use the 4th of July celebration to learn the history and significance of the reasons that we celebrate this holiday. Americans need to know what the colors red, white and blue mean to us as free citizens. We also need to teach our kids that those beautifully executed fireworks represent the blood shed and sacrifice of heroes on the battlefield.
We as parents and educators need to provide our children a historical lesson regarding the 4th of July celebration. There is much more to this holiday than the funnel cakes, hot dogs barbecue and fireworks that our families enjoy on this momentous occasion.
The basis for the 4th of July celebration is the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 by our Founding Fathers. This Declaration of Independence made America a free nation. We celebrate have been this holiday with firecrackers, parades and picnics. It is important to enjoy these festivities with family and friends but it is equally important to teach children what this day really means.
We can use this holiday celebration as an opportunity to educate our children about the history of the Declaration of Independence and what it means to this great country.
A fun way to teach American history is creating a themed menu for the 4th of July. Creating a red white and blue ice cream cake to explain what the colors of the flag represent. Better still, the famous American Flag cake can be used to explain not only what the colors of the flag means but also the history of the 13 colonies.
