It seems that Facebook just one day decided to take over the internet world of communication. Minimal people had it and then all of a sudden everyone had it, and you began to hear comments such as "I'll Facebook you" or "I'll add you as a friend on Facebook." Gone are the days of MSN'ing for all forms of online communication because Facebook is the new "In" thing. So, what exactly is Facebook and how do you use it? Well, it's a relatively simple concept and takes minimal knowledge, so here's some information to get you started.

What Is It?

Facebook can be defined as an online social network that will help connect you with friends or put you back in contact with those people you've lost touch with. You can talk with your friends online through the different applications available.

How to Join?

Everyone and anyone can join Facebook. There is no invitation necessary. All you need to do is visit www.facebook.com to sign up, and you'll be well on your way.

Your Profile

Your Profile is your actual page on Facebook and this is where you will begin your Facebook use. You will see a button at the top of the page in white letters called Profile. This is where to go to visit your Profile page. The first thing to do is to fill in all your personal information such as Name, Birthdate, Relationship Status, Email, Website, Current town, as well as other personal information regarding your Hobbies and Activities or Education and Work information. You can fill in what you want and leave whatever you wish blank. Your Profile page is where you will see all your Facebook activity, and can be changed anytime.

Privacy

You can set your Profile to Open or Private. If you only want your confirmed friends to be able to view your profile than you should set it as Private, which can be done under the Account button on the top right of the screen. If you set your Profile as private people can request to be added as a friend. It is suggested you set your page as private so unknown people can't view your information and pictures, etc.
