How to Transport Plants

The easiest way to plant flowers or plants is to buy them from a store in your area. Buy them from a store which is reputable. You can also split up your plants or flowers once they get large enough. Simply dig around the whole plant or flower, making sure to get the entire root. Dig a large path around the plant and work inward making sure not to cut any large roots. Once the plant is completely free you can gently pull apart the plant and section it off.

If you are moving plants from somebody elses home or moving them around in your yard you can easily do so by placing them in containers with about 3 inches of water. Don't leave the plant out for a long period of time. Make sure that once the plant is in the ground you water the plant every day for at least a minute. The more you water the plants the better the chance for survival. Some plants take transporting very well and some do not. Make sure you know where to put the plants because some like the shade and some like full sun every day.

The only things that you will need to move the plants are a bucket, shovel and a pair of gloves. You will want to clear away any mulch or rock from away from the plant. Bring a pair of scissors so that you can easily cut the liner under the mulch or rock. Make sure to place the liner back to fill up as much of the area as you can. If you do not place the liner back you will find weeds coming up through the holes.

It's easiest to move the plants when the ground is moist and damp. Some days that are very dry make it difficult to move plants around. You may find it easier to water the areas you will be digging. Make sure not to get the ground too wet on that day because you will end up with a muddy mess.

If the plant is fairly small you can use a smaller shovel. The bigger the plants, the bigger the roots and the bigger the shovel that you will need. Make sure to take your time or your whole effort will go down the tubes. If you cut into a big root, the plant will possibly die depending on how bad you cut the roots. Once you are sure that you have clearly the roots you can gently lift up on the shovel to loosen up the plant.
