Most people know that eating yogurt is good for you...the acidophilus cultures in yogurt benefit's the intestinal tract and, in women, helps prevent that nasty itching you can get when you have to take antibiotics which kill off the protective flora naturally occurring in body....But, in the past few years, new cultures have been discovered that are stronger than acidophilus with even better protection, a new generation of yogurt called probiotics.

When they first arrived on the market a few years ago they were very expensive, the one we sold in our health food store cost nearly four dollars each, they were jam packed with different cultures but tasted nasty...That same year we discovered these products, when we were in Paris, we went to one of the big food markets, le Bon Marche'...we couldn't believe our eyes at how many varieties were being sold and at very inexpensive prices...it seemed quite a few of the people, we noticed checking out at the cash register, were buying one or more of these products...of course we bought some for ourselves and discovered that they didn't taste bad at all, to the contrary, they were delicious, if only we could get these in America we thought, at these prices...

Well, now you can!

Probiotics are the latest buzzwords in nutrition ...lately on TV and advertising campaigns we are bombarded with the wonders of these "healthy bacteria"...we've been told to "regulate yourself in two weeks"..."shore up your body's defenses"...It all sounds too good to be true, but what does it really mean?

Thanks for the excellently informative article, Barbara! I used to laugh a few years back when eating yogurt to increase the good flora would be recommended by doctors & such, because back then, there just wasn't enough living micro-organisms, etc, to support that recommendation. Thankfully, things have changed, though! I'm really glad you reviewed this product. It's great that you are getting the word out! :) The ever-long-winded MZ

Danone is a Danish company. I believe they go by Dannon in the US. Over here, that product is called Actimel. I started drinking it about 2 months ago and am just amazed at how effect it is! Great article, Barb.
