How much thought did you put into finding your current doctor? Most people base this important decision on convenience or a recommendation from someone they trust. But before you ask your best friend or a favorite co worker who they would recommend it might be a wise move to take some other things into consideration. After all you are trusting this person to work with you and give you guidance as you take care of one of the most important things about you-your health.Feeling comfortable discussing things with your doctor can be half the battle. Is he or she a good listener? Does your doctor take the time to listen to you and spend some quality time with you. Doctors like everybody else are very busy these days. More patients, newer drugs with which to treat conditions and the constant battle with insurance companies are all competing for a doctors time. But in the end the most important thing between your doctor and you is how you are feeling and what can be done to keep you in tip top shape and avoid potential problems down the road. Make sure you find a doctor who you feel comfortable discussing your physical as well as mental health with.
Is your doctor affiliated with a good hospital or clinic? A doctor who you like and trust is important but if you should require hospitalization or treatment of some kind it is just as important to know which hospital the doctor is associated with and where in all likely hood you will be receiving your treatment for whatever ails you. You can find out how the hospital you doctor is associated with is doing by going to www.hospitalcompare.hhs.gov. Just type in the hospitals name and learn how well that particular hospital is doing as far as different medical procedures are concerned. If the hospital rates well and you are comfortable with the doctor you are well on your way to finding the right doctor for you.
