We all know that homemade bread is delicious. It is also healthier than what you'll buy in your local grocery store. When it comes to making homemade bread, you have two choices. You can make it by hand and bake it in the oven or you can use a machine. Either way, you'll end up with delicious homemade bread. But, which is better? Which is easer to make? Is there a difference?

Handmade vs. Machine Baked: Difficulty

When you make handmade bread, you have to knead it for what seems like hours. If you knead the dough too much or too little the dough will not turn out right. This alone makes handmade bread difficult to make. When you make homemade bread baked in a machine, the machine does all the work. All you have to do is pour in the ingredients and walk away. The machine will mix the ingredients, knead the dough, allow the dough to rise, and then bake it to perfection. The clear winner for ease of preparation would have to be machine baked bread.

Handmade vs. Machine Baked: Ingredients

One thing you will encounter with machine baked bread is that you may have to buy ingredients that you don't have on hand, such as dry milk. This can be annoying, because if you want to bake right then, you may have to go to the grocery store first. Luckily, you can find recipes that call for everyday ingredients, but the recipes that come with the machine usually call for dry milk. When you make handmade bread, you will usually find the ingredients already in your pantry. For ingredients, handmade is the clear winner.

Handmade vs. Machine Baked: Time Involved

Handmade bread takes longer because kneading dough by hand takes longer. If you use a stand mixer, you will speed up the process. But, when you make machine baked bread, you are able to do everything in the machine and it's a lot quicker. When it comes to time involved, machine baked is the clear winner.

With in store bakery bread getting better and better, I can't quite motivate myself to make homemade bread. Neither the machine nor a regular oven gives it the right crust and texture.
