Acne is a skin condition which begins in puberty, and sometimes continues through adolescence and into adulthood. Although there are countless over-the-counter and prescription products available to treat acne, there are many common household items which can be used to treat acne.

One of the most useful household items that can be used to treat acne is calamine lotion. Calamine lotion is the pink liquid that your mom rubbed on your body when you had chicken pox. Just as calamine lotion helped to clear your chicken pox, calamine lotion clears your acne by removing dirt and moisture from the pores of your skin. Calamine lotion also leaves your skin feeling smooth and looking younger. I use a daily over the counter skin cleanser every day, and calamine lotion two times a week, and my face looks, for the most part, as smooth as a model.

A mixture of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide is also a good home remedy for acne. To use this acne remedy, combine one capful of peroxide with two teaspoons of baking soda, and stir the ingredients to a pasty consistency. Liberally apply the consistency to the face, focusing heavily on the infected area. Use this treatment twice each day, and you will see results within two days.

One of the primary causes of acne is because of clogged pores. Steaming is an excellent method for unclogging your pores. As you take your daily shower, run the water as hot as you can tolerate, and hold your face near your showerhead to absorb the steam. If you prefer, you can heat the water on your stove in a tea kettle and let the steam run to your face. Be careful that you don't let the water become hot enough to burn your face, generally, water around normal body temperature will suffice.

If you are prone to acne, be sure that you use an anti bacterial hand soap or bath soap. Work the soap into a rich lather, and apply liberally on your face. Rinse with warm water, and then switch to hot water and let the steam unclog your pores.

Guacamole is also a great treatment for acne. Prepare the guacamole as you would prepare it for dinner, and apply liberally over the face. Allow the guacamole to harden on the face, and rinse off under hot water.

These are some tips I will pass on to my 16-year-old daughter who is having problems with acne around her chin. She likes to wear makeup, too, and that may be clogging her pores even more. Thanks for the tips.
