I spent the first 17 years of my life living in East Tennessee. To me, this state will always have a special place in my heart, no matter how far I get from it. When people think of Tennessee there are several things that come to mind. The following are the top ten things Tennessee is known for.

Top 10 Things Tennessee is Known For #1: Elvis Presley

While Elvis was originally from Tupelo Mississippi, his family moved to Memphis when he was just 13 years old. There Elvis would make a name for himself as The King of Rock-N-Roll. Tennessee is also well known for Elvis' Graceland, which draws in at least half a million visitors each year.

Tennessee is also well known for country music. Many people think of Nashville when they think of country music, but the birthplace of country music is actually Bristol Tennessee. Either way, Tennessee is home to many country music legends.

If you love the outdoors, there may be a chance that you've visiting the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is located in East Tennessee and is known as the most visited national park in America, drawing in over 9 million visitors each year.

If you're a football fan, you know Tennessee is known for its great college football team, the Tennessee Vols. The Vols have fans as far away as Washington State. The Vols home turf is known as Neyland Stadium and is the largest stadium in the South and the third largest in the country.

Thanks to The War of 1812, Tennessee is known as the Volunteer State. Even during the Gulf War, Tennesseans continued to volunteer. More soldiers were deployed from The Volunteer State than any other state during the Gulf War.

I grew up in Knoxville, and this article definately made me a bit homesick for the south!

Amy, I lived in Cleveland, TN, and then we bought a home on the Hiwassee river in Calhoun! Don't forget "Rock City" either, lol. I loved it there, it was gorgeous, but I hated having to drive to Chattanooga to buy our wine and other alcohol,:-) You've made me nostalgic!

I toured Jack Dnniels many years ago. I remember that about it being a dry state, interesting.
